How to Improve Your Smile

A smile can make a difference, whether you are attending an interview or going on a date. Smile with confidence, and your smile can really light up the room.

But what if your smile isn’t everything you want it to be? What if you are afraid to smile because you are too self conscious about the appearance of your teeth?

Improving the appearance of your smile and ultimately your confidence is incredibly easy. Simply utilise any of the following steps, and within weeks you’ll be on your way to a happier you.

  1. Brush your teeth twice a day

When you eat, you produce enzymes in your saliva which break down foods and prevent plaque and tooth decay. However, no matter how well you chew your food, often some of the foods you eat remain in your mouth contributing to enamel erosion and plaque.

This gets especially worse when you get older, as you produce less saliva.

For this reason it is important to brush your teeth twice a day in order to remove these food deposits and keep your teeth healthy.

  2. Use teeth whitening gels, strips and toothpaste

Search the internet and you’ll soon find an assortment of products which claim to help you whiten your teeth from the comfort of your own home. However, this isn’t always the case.

That is why it is important before you buy that you check the products history, studies and ingredients, to see if they are the real deal.

Dr George’s Dental White for instance has been assisting dentists to whiten teeth since 1989.

Made from 120ml/cc of 16% Carbamide peroxide, Dental White works by entering the pores on your teeth and producing active oxygen which converts coloured compounds into colourless compounds.

Reviewed in the Daily Mail, on The Diet Doctors and 5 times on The Oprah Winfrey Shows ‘How to Look 10 Years Younger in 10 Days’, Dental White has been proven to help make your teeth up to 11 shades whiter within a couple of weeks.

  3. Remove foods/drinks from your diet which can stain your teeth

Coffee, tea, cigarettes and wine are notorious for staining your teeth, leaving them looking yellow and discoloured. By removing these foods/drinks from your diet you can help to reverse the effects of their staining and ultimately help your teeth to stay healthier.

Sugary foods and drinks too can gradually do damage to your teeth if you are not careful, as these can cause cavities.

  4. Remember to floss

Flossing helps to remove any food deposits that your tooth brush cannot reach, and prevent a build up of plaque. Similarly, flossing can help to reduce bad breath.

  5. Wear braces

If you are unfortunate enough to have crooked teeth, then braces can help to straighten your smile and improve your confidence. And this is a lot cheaper and healthier than opting for veneers.

Veneers cost £200-£1,100 per tooth to use and involve a minute amount of your tooth enamel being removed before being glued on – not exactly healthy for your teeth over the long term.

Improving your smile doesn’t have to be a mission and a half. Simply improving your dental care can make an immediate difference.

However, if you are looking to reclaim your pearly whites and dazzle on a date, incorporating a teeth whitening gel into your routine can really help to improve the appearance of your teeth and ensure that you shine.
